Toronto Strip Clubs: Should Comic-Con Leave San Diego?

February 26th, 2010 · No Comments

Call me a traditionalist (though that wouldn’t be fair, since I’ve only been to four Comic-Cons), but taking Comic-Con from San Diego seems like another step toward losing the convention’s intrinsic appeal as a fan-centric event.
Imagine how much control the studios would have if Comic-Con was plopped right in the middle of Los Angeles or down the 5 in Anaheim. Comic-Con is a fan’s event, and it’s already getting too commercial. Putting the event in LA would be like leading lambs to the slaughter.
Las Vegas is a better choice, and it can certainly handle the flow. But Sin City has too many distractions that could take away from the fan events that occur when the convention shuts it doors for the night. And no one wants to see strippers with Dorito-fingerprints on them after relaxing the no-touch rule for a Spider-Man fan from Wisconsin.

SAN ANTONIO – Former Toronto Raptor Alvin Robertson has been charged with sexual assault of a child, trafficking an underage child for purposes of sex and forcing a sexual performance by a child.
The charges were contained in an arrest warrant Friday. Robertson has not been apprehended.
Authorities claim Robertson, 47, who scored the first points in Raptors history when the franchise began play in 1995, star was part of a ring that kidnapped a 14-year-old girl from San Antonio, forced her to have sex with clients and to dance at a Corpus Christi strip club last year.
The girl escaped her alleged captors, prompting an investigation. Seven people have been charged, including Robertson’s girlfriend, and he’s the only one who has not been arrested.
The San Antonio Spurs selected Robertson seventh overall in the 1984 draft. He averaged 14 points over 10 seasons and was voted to four all-star games. He finished his career with Toronto during the 1995-’96 season.

Toronto Adult Entertainment: Toronto runaways found as prostitutes

February 25th, 2010 · No Comments

The girls were allegedly lured into the world of prostitution by an Ottawa resident who began posting pictures of them online soliciting sex.
Gatineau police said they don’t believe the girls were forced or held against their will. They were offered at an hourly rate for outcalls and incalls, terms used to describe whether the girl goes to a john or he goes to them.
When the girls were doing incalls, they were set up in Gatineau and Ottawa motels. Police didn’t say how the girls knew each other.
The investigation began with Gatineau police looking into a home invasion Feb. 8 at 370 Prado St., near Aylmer. During that incident, three suspects beat and robbed a man.

Acting Staff. Sgt. Mark Patterson of the Ottawa police guns and gang unit said the allegations of prostitution came to light after the arrest at the motel, adding more investigation needs to be done.

Toronto Strip Clubs: Blazers/Raptors Pre-Thoughts

February 24th, 2010 · No Comments

With both Marcus Camby and Chris Bosh being out for tonight’s contest, things got a lot more interesting. In Toronto’s case they take a huge hit offensively as they lose a low post presence and their superstar. Portland however loses the guy that allows them to look like something resembling a defensive unit. You would like to see LaMarcus Aldridge go to work on Toronto’s frontline without Bosh. I’d venture out to say it may be disappointing if he doesn’t. I’m interested to see how Brandon Roy’s hamstring holds up on a back to back. I compared his hamstring to a stripper the other day and then he comes out and drops 28 points on 14 shots. Let’s aim for him continuing to look better and better but I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t be ok with no setbacks. Andre Miller also should have some opportunities and space to work against Calderon and Jack.  All of this being said, we al …

Toronto Adult Entertainment: Two more Somali men slain in Alberta

February 23rd, 2010 · No Comments

PATRICK WHITE From Tuesday’s Globe and Mail Published on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 12:00AM EST Last updated on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 3:50AM EST
The pattern of death is inescapable.
Two young Somali men were slain in Alberta last week, the RCMP confirmed yesterday, marking the 25th and 26th murders of men born in the war-torn country over the past four years.
Yet again, the victims were born in Somalia but raised in Toronto.
Yet again, the victims appear to have had links to a bustling drug trade between Ontario and Alberta.
Yet again, police have no suspects.
On Feb. 17, Idiris Abess, 23, and Saed Adad, 22, were found dead in Hillside Manor, a downtown Fort McMurray apartment building notorious for drug-dealing and prostitution, according to current and former residents.

Toronto Adult Entertainment: Kat Dennings’ infinite experience

February 20th, 2010 · No Comments

Stebbings says he was well aware of the archetypal source material he was working with, but wanted to strip it down to the basic mechanics of good and bad, and stick as close to the baseline as possible.
“I think people need to see how a lot of people in our society live. We turn a blind eye to all the invisible people out there, whether they are dealing with drug addiction or a disability,” says Stebbings.
“I spent a lot of time in Vancouver and I used to go to the First United Church at Hastings and Gore. I definitely saw how the other half lived,” he says.
Dennings wasn’t all that familiar with that other half, but in order to play the role of a teenage prostitute in this Canadian take on Taxi Driver, she did spend some time with a spokesperson for sex trade workers.

Toronto Strip Clubs: Court views video of man’s fatal shooting

Court views video of man’s fatal shooting
Two men charged with slaying outside Yonge strip club
Megan O’Toole, National Post  Published: Friday, February 19, 2010
It happens in a matter of moments: On a grainy security tape played in court yesterday, two men are forcibly thrown out of the Brass Rail strip club on Yonge Street. They walk south and out of the frame.
A security guard emerges, holding up a cellphone; apparently one of the ejected guests left it inside the bar.
There is no sound on the videotape. But moments later, the crowd milling on this stretch of Yonge scatters. The Brass Rail security staff retreat into the bar. Cabs pull away, leaving the normally busy road eerily deserted.
And a man who will later be identified as John O’Keefe lies dead on the sidewalk, having fallen like a stone as a stray bullet entered his brain.

Toronto Adult Entertainment: Harrelson goes from zombie-slayer to military man to clueless hero in ?Defendor?

… The whole movie does fall apart if you don’t get it right and I sort of just ended up saying that to Woody. I told everybody in the movie: despite the given circumstances of this movie (their characters) are completely real. Let’s not go chasing laughs. if we get a laugh, great and if we don’t so be it, we’re not trying to be funny here,” Stebbings says recently by phone from L.A., where he’s auditioning for TV roles during pilot season.
“I always felt that if we took his mental health issues seriously and didn’t kind of look at them through the eyes of a bleeding heart kind of thing but actually look at them through his eyes, you know, that we would be OK.”
“Grey’s Anatomy” actress Sandra Oh, who grew up in Nepean, Ont., plays Poppington’s criminal psychiatrist, while Montreal’s Elias Koteas (”Fallen,” “Crash”) is a crooked cop and Kat Dennings (”Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, “ER”) plays a crack-addicted prostitute who befriends Arthur.
