Toronto Adult Entertainment: Interview: Chloe’s Julianne Moore

March 23rd, 2010 · No Comments

When shes almost sure her husband, David, (Liam Neeson) is cheating on her, she makes a deal with a young prostitute named Chloe (Amanda Seyfried). Chloe attempts to seduce David on several occasions and reports back to Catherine with the details. Catherine quickly becomes conflicted eager to end the arrangement, but caught in the middle of the troubling discoveries and her own atypical intrigue.

Keeping it within the balance of normal behavior. If you try to one line this movie, its about a woman who hires a prostitute to follow her husband to find out if hes cheating. Its like, Oh yeah, that happens all the time. When you do that, you get outside of it and then it stops being meaningful. You have to be inside of Catherine all the time, so that every time she meets [Chloe] and she goes, Okay, were going to do this one more time. Okay, one more time, each step feels like tragedy inevitable. You can see it, you know its coming, but you know she has to take this – so thats the most challenging thing to keep in line.

VIDEO: ‘Chloe’ Star Amanda Seyfried Reveals Why She Went ‘Crazy’ for Love
Amanda Seyfried’s sexy new drama Chloe, in which she plays a mentally unstable prostitute, has received a ton of early buzz — not only for the skilled acting and surprise ending, but for the graphic sex scene between the 24-year-old actress and her costar, Julianne Moore.
While Moore is no stranger to onscreen nudity, newcomer Seyfried admits she wasn’t completely at ease about it. “Intimacy can be awkward with anybody, even off camera,” she tells iVillage. “And then to do it with somebody who’s not really your lover and in front of ten people for a film is really hard.”
The sex scenes may have been a challenge, but the doe-eyed, sweet-natured actress says she loved tackling a character so different from herself. Seyfried’s Chloe goes crazy with her obsession for Moore’s character. So what’s the craziest, real-life thing Seyfried’s done for love?

Toronto Adult Entertainment: Review: `Chloe’ lays on guilt, skips pleasure

March 23rd, 2010 · No Comments

Yet “Chloe” rings false from the start, the story is dead on arrival from the moment suspicious wife Moore, convinced husband Neeson is cheating on her, hires call girl Seyfried to push the man’s buttons and see if it’s true.
Really, who does this rather than just confronting the lech and having it out?
There’s something off, and off-putting, about each of these characters in the screenplay by Erin Cressida Wilson, who adapted “Chloe” from the equally lurid and unsatisfying French thriller “Nathalie.”

The film Neeson was shooting when his wife, Natasha Richardson, was fatally injured in a skiing accident a year ago, “Chloe” casts him in a subordinate role as music professor David. The dominant relationship here is the one that plays out between Moore’s gynecologist Catherine and Seyfried’s prostitute Chloe.

Toronto Adult Entertainment: Exclusive: Amanda Seyfried is Chloe

March 23rd, 2010 · No Comments

In the words of MTV’s “True Life,” you think you know Amanda Seyfried as an actress, but you have no idea. This reference is particularly fitting considering the channel’s target audience is likely the one to rush to see anything with Seyfried’s name attached. But brace yourselves; you’ve likely seen her as the blond bombshell with ‘ESPN,’ Karen, in Mean Girls, Meryl Streep’s bubbly daughter Sophie in Mamma Mia! or, more recently, as the innocent nerd trying to deal with her demonic best friend in Jennifer’s Body, but you’ve never seen her like this.
In Chloe, Seyfried plays the titular character, a young prostitute who delves into an unconventional side of the business when she strikes a deal with an older woman named Catherine (Julianne Moore). Catherine suspects her husband (Liam Neeson) is cheating on her and hires Chloe to taunt him so she can see if he’ll nibble at the bait. But what Catherine doesn’t know is that there’s far more to Chloe than operating a business of questionable integrity. In fact, Chloe’s personal integrity is more suspect than her line of work.

Toronto Adult Entertainment: Amanda Seyfried on Making a Romantic Comedy: "They Pay a Lot"

March 23rd, 2010 · No Comments

Even fully furnished, a hotel room is a drab backdrop for an interview. If the only objects in the room are two chairs facing each other in the middle of the carpet—as was the case when I met Amanda Seyfried—it’s no longer an interview but an interrogation. But all those right angles and dim, barren surfaces only emphasized the way light reflected off Seyfried’s cartoonishly feline eyes and rolled along her curves all the way down to her knee, upon which my tape recorder rested.
That’s just the glowing allure Atom Egoyan exploits in Chloe, which comes out on Friday. In his borderline campy but no less enjoyable remake of the erotic French thriller Nathalie, the Canadian director cast Seyfried as a high-class prostitute hired by a woman (Julianne Moore) to test the fidelity of her husband, played by Liam Neeson. Though the film will be seen in its theatrical run only in select cities, individual clips—and here I’m thinking specifically of ones where Seyfried and Moore get it on—are bound to proliferate across the Internet to, well, less discerning audiences. Too bad, because it’s the 24-year-old’s most compelling and multi-faceted performance yet.

Toronto Adult Entertainment: Amanda Seyfried: ‘It’s Nice to Finally Be Thought of as Sexy’

March 23rd, 2010 · No Comments

Amanda Seyfried got a lot of attention when she kissed Hollywood hottie Megan Fox in Jennifer’s Body and went on to score at the box office locking lips with hunky Channing Tatum in Dear John.
Now the actress, who was just named Female Breakthrough Star of the Year at ShoWest in Las Vegas, is playing a prostitute who ends up in bed with Julianne Moore in
Chloe
. Parade.com’s Jeanne Wolf found out why Seyfried was ready to bare all in some shocking sex scenes.
Getting ready to play a hooker. “I guess you can meet them, but I didn’t. Actually, [director] Atom Egoyan talked with some prostitutes and asked them some serious questions about what they did. They were very open and he relayed it all to me. So I understood where Chloe was coming from. It’s funny, a lot of us play ourselves until we finally get a chance like this to actually play somebody that we’re totally not.”

Toronto Adult Entertainment: Amanda Seyfried gets obsessive in Chloe

March 23rd, 2010 · No Comments

A psychological thriller that takes a Jungian route through a Freudian, Fatal-Attraction landscape, Chloe features Seyfried in the title role as a young prostitute who receives a unique proposition from a married physician named Catherine, played by Julianne Moore: Catherine asks Chloe to seduce her husband, a professor played by Liam Neeson.
“It’s hard to really figure out what I’m saying when I talk about Chloe,” says Seyfried, flashing her million-dollar smile. “I come up with things and describe her as vulnerable, because you see all these wonderful qualities about her towards the end. But actually, she’s CRAZY!”

“She’s very well-educated about men and the game of men, and the game of prostitution, and doing it well, so you’re always being recommended. It’s a high-class game and she’s super-good at it. It’s her power. But she’s also a child and has no idea about love. She has no real concept of it because she never had it in her life.”

Toronto Adult Entertainment: Atom Egoyan set Chloe here because “Toronto is a prostitute”

March 23rd, 2010 · No Comments

For Torontonians, watching Hollywood stars Julianne Moore, Amanda Seyfried and Liam Neeson romp around their city in Chloe will be part—a large part—of the fun. The original screenplay was set in San Francisco, but director Atom Egoyan was keen on filming and setting the movie in Toronto. Chloe, the story of a wife who hires a prostitute to test her husband’s faithfulness, opens on Friday.
“At the level of metaphor, it’s interesting because Toronto is a prostitute. As a city, very often it pretends to be New York or Chicago or San Francisco,” Egoyan told the L.A. Times. “So it’s interesting that since this is a film about that, in fact the city becomes a character.”
Don’t take it personally, Toronto—we still think you’re a classy gal. Shall we leave our ticket money here on the nightstand?
