… Chloe’: Egoyan’s latest is ‘Fatal Attraction’ meets ‘Poison Ivy’
By Jeff Simon, The Buffalo News, N.Y.
Mar. 26–There is a supposedly erotic moment in Atom Egoyan’s ridiculous but entertaining “Chloe” that elicited a couple of spontaneous and unintentional guffaws at the critic’s screening. I wouldn’t dream of spoiling it for you, so let’s just say it involves shoes and leave it at that.
Chloe Three stars (Out of four) Julianne Moore, Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried star in Atom Egoyan film about a disturbed young prostitute who wreaks havoc on an upscale family in Toronto. 96 minutes. Rated R for language and a good deal of nudity and sex.

Toronto Adult Entertainment: The casualties of love

… Chloe,” which opened Friday, represents a step into the mainstream for the cerebral Canadian filmmaker. Egoyan, 50, has earned numerous international honors but not much commercial success. Born in Cairo of Armenian descent and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Egoyan often explores issues of alienation and identity. Those fixations add intellectual heft to “Chloe,” which might have been a “Fatal Attraction” retread in other hands.
During a recent Minneapolis visit, Egoyan said he persuaded his cast to sign on for a sexually charged thriller by describing it simply as a drama. “This is the story of a marriage,” he said. “Our erotic lives are an essential part of who we are, and the erotic life of this couple has disappeared. Julianne Moore’s character hires a prostitute rather than a detective to investigate her husband because she needs to re-create the erotic image of who this man is. It also goes into the competing fantasies these women have of who the other might be. That makes for very interesting drama.

Then he added this line: “Looking at Toronto right across the border is pretty cool as well.”
Um, Tim? On a clear day in Youngstown, it is possible to look across Lake Ontario and see Toronto. But that city in the picture you included is Niagara Falls, Ont. (The falls in the foreground should have been a big hint.)
They need a fourth
Tiger Woods’ latest mistress—if you can believe her—Florida porn star Devon James has a local connection.
Former Buffalo vice cop Marty Harrington, now an undercover detective with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office in Bradenton, busted James in December on a prostitution charge. Several news and gossip Web sites have linked James and Woods as a couple.

Identity crisis
Amanda Seyfried and Julianne Moore generate some steam in “Chloe,” but a feeble finale spoils the mood
The younger woman pours a steady stream of sugar into her coffee cup. Her life could use a little sweetening up: She’s Chloe, a call girl who lives out other people’s fantasies while shutting out her own. “I can become your first kiss, or a torn-out image from a Playboy magazine you saw when you were 9 years old,” she says. “I can become your living, breathing dream. Then I can disappear.”
In the eyes of another woman, that same stream of sugar might represent sand rushing through an hourglass. She’s Catherine, a gynecologist who once thought she was happily married and a good mom; now, she’s not sure she qualifies for either category. Her husband, David, is almost certainly cheating on her, and her teenage son, Michael, finds her more annoying than admirable.
