January 14th, 2012 · No Comments

The first person to be convicted of human trafficking in York Region was given a stiff sentence on Friday.
Jason Reid, 28, of Richmond Hill was sentenced to four years in jail.
Court heard that Reid forced a 21-year-old woman to exchange sex for money at a Toronto-area massage parlour.
The woman said Reid kept her at his Richmond Hill Home without access to her credit cards and identification.
Court also heard that she was also not allowed to speak with other men, unless it was negotiating money, and that she was forced to hand over all of her earnings to Reid.
Reid’s sentence includes three years for human trafficking and an additional year for possession of a handgun while under a weapons ban.
Reid, who was arrested on Sept. 29, was also given a lifetime ban on owning a weapon and must provide a DNA sample.
