This big pomp and ceremony procession by the NDP reminds me of the overdeserving one given for Ted Kennedy. Praising a guy who made extremely good money for doing a job whose major accomplishment was being a self promoting politician. My memories of Jack Layton, will be 1) him and his wife living on tax payer assisted housing while they made over 100,000 a year. 2) How my measly $13.00 an hour for adminstrative work dropped to $10.00 after the NDP skills for change program, which was meant to give new immigrants work down graded mine. And of course the hypocrisy of the massage parlor find, while calling everyone else in opposition and crook (even when it was untrue). I have met plenty of these so called do gooders all my life. Homelessness is something Jack had no business writing about, because he knows nothing of it. But these are the sorts of subjects these career politicians use to bolster their public relations st …

Last year he and his fellow MP wife Olivia Chow billed taxpayers more than $1.1-million in expenses to go along with their combined almost $370,000 in salary.
He may have advocated for the homeless but he was hardly one of them — in fact, he lived on the public purse for the better part of 30 years. However, he was elected there.
People wanted him and right up to his last breath, he was doing his very best to try to serve and push forward their interests and agenda.
Jack was no angel and never purported to be. He had his share of controversies from being investigated by the Chief Julian Fantino for being part of a anti-poverty riot at Queen’s Park, to living in rent controlled housing while earning major income to a bizarre encounter with police years ago inside a Chinatown massage parlour that resulted in no charges.

Jack Layton never steered away from controversy, when he saw wrong he spoke out. In 2004 he spoke for the rights of homeless people and funding for affordable housing. Throughout the early 2000’s the NDP party rose with Layton’s leadership.
In 2011 Layton ran against current Prime Minister Stephen Harper. During the election a story came out in the Sun News Network and the Toronto Sun that Jack had been found naked in a police raid of a massage parlour. At the time I asked Olivia Chow about the incident. She laughed when she told me that she knew he had been there saying that Jack’s life of being sporty led to the need of massages. Olivia had complete trust of the man she had married and loved. Her love of Jack was visible to all that know her.

… I’ve never met anybody so perfectly matched to a life in politics,” Martin said of Layton.
But Layton did have some brushes with controversy. In 1988, he came under fire when it emerged that he and Chow were living in a housing co-operative subsidized by the federal government, despite a combined income of $120,000. Toronto’s solicitor cleared the couple of any wrong-doing, and the couple soon left the co-op and bought a house in Toronto’s Chinatown.
In the 2011 election, three days before voting day, it emerged that Layton had also been caught up in a sting on a Toronto massage parlour. Layton insisted he had entered the salon seeking a legitimate shiatsu massage and didn’t know the place was used for “illicit purposes.” Police chose not to charge him in the sting.

But lawyer Roots Gadhia praises Chisvin as “an excellent judge” who took a drastic step to alert the public to an inherent problem in the courts.
“It may not have been the best way to handle it, but I do applaud him,” Gadhia says.
When everyone is just a “few minutes” late, it drags down the system, delaying the docket so people have to return the next day or the next when it could have been resolved much sooner.
“What Chisvin is saying is ‘Enough is enough,’” Gadhia says. “It’s probably happened a lot at that courthouse and he put his foot down.”
Appointed as a judge in 2004, Chisvin is certainly no stranger to making waves.
In 2007, he acquitted a massage parlour owner on bawdy house charges despite the club offering the undercover policeman a “happy ending” on his two visits there.
