Jayson McDonald is a fringe favourite â renowned for such stellar offerings as the charming Fall Fair. This time heâs skewering celebrity culture. The results are quite entertaining, although some routines in this 60-minute show are stronger than others.
McDonald is joined by actor Meghan Brown. The pair take us through a series of short skits. We meet the Neutralizer â a super-macho movie hero, as well as a Lindsay Lohan-like party girl. Weâre also treated to satires of Entertainment Tonight and Inside the Actorâs Studio.
The funniest and most original character is a hotel desk clerk whoâs routinely enticed, supposedly against his will, into mini-adventures with celebrities. McDonald portrays him as a jaded wise guy. Unlike most of us, he insists he canât really be bothered hobnobbing with the movie stars who want to buy him drinks, seduce him, rent him prostitutes and so on. McDonald, an expert comic actor, brings this snide fellow vividly to life.

Much has changed since the inaugural year, when Hollywood studios turned up their noses at the fledging fest. Then again, much hasn’t. It’s still two weeks of celebrities and fans behaving badly. Here, a look back on TIFF’s most memorable moments, from the coke-fuelled ’70s to the paparazzi-riddled oughties.
1978
Festival judge Robbie Robertson orders the Plaza II Hotel’s entire stash of Dom Perignon within an hour of arriving. TIFF director Wayne Clarkson shows up to investigate (the Festival was still picking up celebrity tabs then) and finds what he calls “a true rock-and-roll fornicatorium.”
The Ontario Censor Board shows some prude attitude by banning Louis Malle’s Pretty Baby, starring a pre-teen Brooke Shields as a prostitute.

Toronto Escorts: More Irish Titles Announced for Toronto 2010

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) today announced more projects that will feature in its 2010 event. The festivals line-up will include screenings of several Irish productions and co-productions including Tom Halls Sensation; Jerzy Skolimowskis Essential Killing; Dome Karukoski’s Lapland Odyssey (which will enjoy its world premiere at the event) and the previously announced feature documentary, The Pipe from Risteard O’Domhnall.
As part of TIFFs Contemporary World Cinema Programme, Tom Hall (Wide Open Spaces) will see his latest feature, Sensation receive its international premiere. The film details the relationship between Tipperary farmer Donal Duggan, played by Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) and a veteran Kiwi escort, played by Luanne Gordon (King Kong).
