Toronto Escorts: Seamy side to Olympics Canada’s shame

March 3, 2010 · No Comments

Over the past two weeks, we Canadians enthusiastically cheered on our athletes as they have competed for Olympic glory on our home soil in Vancouver. I, along with countless others, was so proud to watch our men and women vying to be the best in the world, and was filled with patriotism as the Maple Leaf was hoisted over the medal podium. I extend my warmest congratulations to all our Canadian athletes.
Unfortunately, there was also a dark side to the Olympic Games in Vancouver: human trafficking.
Similar to many other large sporting events where the demand for paid sex spikes, young women and girls were trafficked to Vancouver from across Canada to be sexually exploited for the gratification and profit of others.
As the 2010 Games began, the Citizens Summit Against Sex Slavery issued a press release noting that front-line agencies in Vancouver had witnessed an increase in underage youth being bought and sold for sex on the streets of Vancouver. Even before the Games began, pimps and traffickers were posting ads on Craigslist to anonymously sell young women for sex.

Toronto Escorts: ‘A crime that shames us all’

March 3, 2010 · No Comments

Timea Nagy arrived in Toronto from Budapest in 1998, the victim of a trafficker who had promised her a job. Instead, she was forced to work in the sex trade. Using a Hungarian-English dictionary to ask for help, she managed to escape after three months and later testified against her traffickers in court. She succeeded in building a new life and in 2009, established Walk with Me, to help victims of trafficking.
Nagy says the focus should be on helping victims and preventing trafficking. She commends the new approach taken by the York Region Police in the Toronto area, who have started to view women in the sex trade as likely victims and concentrate on building the case against pimps and traffickers who threaten victims or tell them they will be charged. If the girls read in the newspaper that the police are taking a different approach, that the girls are [considered] victims of trafficking and exploitation, more and more girls will come forward, she says.

Toronto Adult Entertainment: Olympic venting

March 1, 2010 · No Comments

… – Normally, I don’t watch hockey because of the violence, but I was delighted to watch the women playing hockey because there was none of that. It reminded me of hockey when I was a kid.
- – Wait. Other teams don’t have a celebratory beer at centre ice after a win?
- – I get annoyed at how individuals spontaneously declare they’re proud to be Canadian as a result of some Olympics-related turn of events. To my admittedly pragmatic way of thinking, doing this implies such pride was either lacking or nonexistent in the first place.
- – Hey, anybody know where I can get a pair of those cool slacks the curlers from Norway are wearing?
- – The bouquets given to the medal-lists have all been handmade by a group of women who are recovering from addictions and/or prostitution. The colour is in keeping with the games’ colours: green and blue.

Toronto Strip Clubs: Should Comic-Con Leave San Diego?

February 26, 2010 · No Comments

Call me a traditionalist (though that wouldn’t be fair, since I’ve only been to four Comic-Cons), but taking Comic-Con from San Diego seems like another step toward losing the convention’s intrinsic appeal as a fan-centric event.
Imagine how much control the studios would have if Comic-Con was plopped right in the middle of Los Angeles or down the 5 in Anaheim. Comic-Con is a fan’s event, and it’s already getting too commercial. Putting the event in LA would be like leading lambs to the slaughter.
Las Vegas is a better choice, and it can certainly handle the flow. But Sin City has too many distractions that could take away from the fan events that occur when the convention shuts it doors for the night. And no one wants to see strippers with Dorito-fingerprints on them after relaxing the no-touch rule for a Spider-Man fan from Wisconsin.

Toronto Adult Entertainment: Toronto runaways found as prostitutes

February 25, 2010 · No Comments

The girls were allegedly lured into the world of prostitution by an Ottawa resident who began posting pictures of them online soliciting sex.
Gatineau police said they don’t believe the girls were forced or held against their will. They were offered at an hourly rate for outcalls and incalls, terms used to describe whether the girl goes to a john or he goes to them.
When the girls were doing incalls, they were set up in Gatineau and Ottawa motels. Police didn’t say how the girls knew each other.
The investigation began with Gatineau police looking into a home invasion Feb. 8 at 370 Prado St., near Aylmer. During that incident, three suspects beat and robbed a man.

Acting Staff. Sgt. Mark Patterson of the Ottawa police guns and gang unit said the allegations of prostitution came to light after the arrest at the motel, adding more investigation needs to be done.
